Religious sites

Building a religious space. This is a photo of a garden built by a Mormon to, in my opinion, create a sacred space that communicated his sense of religious awe.

There is a website with more photos. I was interested because I have been to Simon Rodia’s Watts Towers, Baldasare Forestiere’s Underground Gardens in Fresno and I’ve followed Paulo Solari’sArcosanti.

Folk art often tries to do what Cathedral’s and religious sites (like the Cistine Chapel) do. I find that folk art is usually more effective. I’m highly conscious of this because Japanese create folk art religious sites everywhere. They believe in local, very local, gods.

Folk art works better than institutional art — because — individuals have the power to speak across time to each other. A really weird observation that comes from my reading of many ancient (pre-historic) texts that were transcribed from the oral traditions.
